The resort of Pamukkale near Denizli in Western Turkey, with its cascading hot thermal pools
The Cathedral of Ani, built in A.D. 989 by the architect Trdat offers an example of a cruciform domed church within a rectangular plan, devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Cathedral became one of the architectural masterpieces of Armenia. Some European historians think that the volume composition of the interior elements were an inspiration for the development of late Gothic architecture of Europe in the 12th - 14th centuries. - image courtesy of Nuran Zorlu
